SEGESTA, MARSALA WINERY, ERICE

Today our
first stop today is
to Segesta,
one of the major cities of the Elymian people (one of the three indigenous
peoples of Sicily). Upon arrival, independent visit to the Temple. Later,
continue to a local winery to visit to the cellars and wines tasting.
This
afternoon we will reach Erice. The Elymians settled this medieval town
and it was an important religious site associated with goddesses of fertility.
Wander through its’ ancient streets and visit some of the famous homemade pastry
shops, world-renown for marzipan candies and other delicacies like almond
and pistachio pastries.
Later back to Trapani port/hotel.
COOKING COURSE & ERICE

Today our
first stop today is
to
to an
olive oil factory & farmhouse to enjoy a simple and country cooking course.
Light lunch. This
afternoon we will reach Erice. The Elymians settled this medieval town
and it was an important religious site associated with goddesses of fertility.
Wander through its’ ancient streets and visit some of the famous homemade pastry
shops, world-renown for marzipan candies and other delicacies like almond
and pistachio pastries.
Later back to Trapani port/hotel.
SAN VITO LO CAPO BEACH & ERICE

Today our
first stop today is
to San Vito
lo Capo,
is a charming coastal town in
the Trapani area with a great beach. Extending below Mount Cofano, a high
pointed limestone cliff visible from a distance, San Vito is near the Zingaro
Nature Reserve and the hamlet of Scopello, where some scenes of the movie
Ocean's Twelve were filmed in 2004. Time at leisure to rest and enjoy the
beach side. This afternoon we travel to Erice.

MONREALE & PALERMO
Full Day from Trapani port/hotel
Today we drive
to Monreale to see where the Arab-Norman art and
architecture reached the pinnacle of its glory with the Duomo,
launched in 1174 by William II. It represents scenes from the Old and New
Testaments all in golden mosaics. Then on to Palermo to explore the lively
Capo Market,
a large
open street market that captures the flavor of Palermo's Saracen Arab
past. Capo is a blend of general confusion and a jumble of vendors' stalls,
winding toward the old gate (Porta Carini) of what used to be the city wall. We
continue by seeing Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda, whose “four
corners” converge Palermo at a quartet of baroque palaces left over from the
heyday of Spanish rule dating from 1560.

SALT WAY ROAD, MOTHIA ISLAND & WINERY
Full Day from Trapani port/hotel
Today
we
travel between
Trapani and Marsala on the Salt Way Road. We will tour the historic
saltpan works where the ancient tradition of harvesting salt from the sea is
still practiced. We soon arrive to Marsala. On board on the ferry-boat
to reach Mothia Island, founded at the end of VII century B.C. on the
island of San Pantaleo, situated at the centre of a large lagoon, known today as
'Stagnone', or big pond. Time at leisure to visit the Withaker Museum and the
archaeological site. Than we return to the main land. This afternoon we will
visit a winery to tasting wines. Later
back
to
Trapani
port/hotel.
